Chartier lifts Southern Tier over West Michigan, 2-1

Behind a great game by Kyler Chartier, who had two goals, Southern Tier defeated West Michigan, 2-1.

Chartier scored at 10:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Southern Tier and again while 1:39 into the third to make the score 2-1 Southern Tier.

Southern Tier was led by goalie Tyler Geloneck, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Geloneck will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Southern Tier stifled West Michigan\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Southern Tier\’s offense rang up 33 shots on West Michigan\’s net.

Other players who recorded assists for Southern Tier were Justin Andriaccio, Ingus Matins, Isaiah Crawford, and Victor McCutcheon, who each chipped in one.

West Michigan excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. West Michigan\’s offense rang up 40 shots on Southern Tier\’s net.

West Michigan was led by Brandon Benaglio, who scored the team\’s only goal. Benaglio scored 7:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Devin Farkas assisted on the tally.
