Despite Fast Start, Xpress Suffer 4-3 Loss

The Southern Tier Xpress got off to a good start Friday, scoring the first two goals, but then  the Roc City Royals scored four unanswered goals in recording a 4-3 win in NA3HL action.

Jacob St. Andre scored his seventh goal of the year from Tristan Mock and Grant Schamer at 13:28 of the first period to give the Xpress a 1-0 lead. With 48 seconds remaining in the opening period, Santeri Rajakalliop also got his seventh from Cameron Trejchel for a 2-0 Xpress edge.

The second period changed everything around in the Royals’ favor.  Brandon Corey got his 28th goal unassisted at 8:17 and his 29th from John Onufryk and Aidan Connolly at 9:26 to tie the game, 2-2. Henrik Tvianen tallied from Cameron Clark and Branden Cameron at 19:26 to put the Royals ahead to stay at 3-2.

Peter Izzo made it 4-2 by scoring a power-play goal at 3:15 of the third stanza.

The Xpress got one back when St. Andre tallied his eighth goal from Schamer and Rajamski at 18:35 but they couldn’t get the equalizer.

Harrison Vangellow was in net for the Xpress and he made 23 saves while Ian Stahl had 37 saves for the Royals.

The Xpress return to the Northwest Arena today to battle the Royals again with the game starting at 7 p.m.
