Gerace Nets 4 Goals, Xpress Post 7-0 Victory

Joey Gerace turned in quite a performance at the Schwan Super Rink on Sunday.

Heck, so did most of his teammates.

Gerace scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Southern Tier Xpress to a 7-0 victory over the Cape Cod Islanders in the North American Tier III Hockey League Showcase Tournament.

Stuart Pearson chipped in a goal and an assist, Mickenzie Restle and Tristan Mock both found the back of the net, while Nick Wilcox, John Ogeka and Reginald Hunter each had an assist.

Ryan Pascarella earned the win in goal, stopping 17 shots to raise his record to 8-11 with his second shutout of the season.

Gerace opened the scoring in the first period with a short-handed goal at the 7:13 mark and then added his second goal less than four minutes later on an assist from Pearson.

That was more than enough support for Pascarella, but the Xpress’ offense was just getting started as it erupted for five second-period goals.

Pearson tallied his 14th from Gerace and Hunter; Gerace earned the hat trick at 12:45 on another short-handed goal; Mock scored his fifth of the year at 14:54 on a helper from Ogeka; Gerace recorded his fourth of the game and sixth of the season unassisted at 15:19; and Restle lit the lamp for his 15th of the campaign on an assist from Wilcox at 18:55 to complete the scoring.

The Xpress (9-16) return to action at 11:30 a.m. (EST) today against the Wausau RiverWolves.
