Lansing Sweep: Wolves Top Xpress For Second Straight Day At Northwest Arena

Lansing completed a weekend sweep of Southern Tier, beating the Xpress, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in North American Tier III Hockey League East Division action at Northwest Arena.

The Wolves (4-6-1) scored a goal in the first period before a three-goal second period put Southern Tier (3-5-0) away.

Garrett Daum opened the scoring with his second goal of the season from Ryan Weaver and Brendon Ashley at 14:01 on the power play to give Lansing the lead.

Garrison Weyh’s fifth goal of the season from Carter Stensland made it 2-0 at 11:00 of the second period. The Wolves made it 3-0 when Justin Sill scored his first of the season from Brendon Ashley and Noah Pipper at 14:26. Cameron Zucker’s second of the season from Sill and Weaver capped the scoring at 18:25 of the second period.

Xpress goaltender Brandon Heacock turned aside 29 of the 33 Lansing shots he faced.

Sean Finstrom made 24 saves for his first victory and first shutout of the season.

Lansing’s win Saturday night moved the Wolves ahead of the Xpress into fifth place in the division.

Southern Tier returns to action next Sunday against the Wooster Oilers at Alice Noble Ice Arena. The Xpress will return home Oct. 27-28 for a pair of games against the Toledo Cherokee at Northwest Arena.
