Poor Second Period Costs Xpress

The second period told the story for the Southern Tier Xpress in a loss at Northwest Arena on Friday night.

After a scoreless opening stanza, the Pittsburgh Vengeance grabbed a 2-1 margin in the second period and held on for a 3-1 NA3HL victory over the Xpress.

Nicholas Lyon opened the scoring for Pittsburgh (12-7-1) from Kenny White and Cam Williams at 4:05 of the second period. Brian Dee made it 2-0 from Dominick Glavach and James Unger at the 11:35 mark.

The Xpress (6-9-1) got their only goal when Nicholas Wilcox scored his fourth goal from Arttu Rajamaki and Santeri Rajakallio at 18:56.

Then in the final stanza, Dillon Joyce tallied unassisted at 5:59 to close out the scoring.

Joel De Simone made 26 saves for Pittsburgh while Ryan Pascarella stopped 28 shots for the Xpress.

Southern Tier travels to battle Pittsburgh today for a 6:30 p.m. game at the Alpha Ice Complex. Next Friday, the Xpress are at the

Lockport Express for an 8 p.m. game at the Cornerstone Ice Arena.
