Southern Tier pulls away in second, rolls over Cincinnati, 8-0

The Southern Tier Xpress scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Cincinnati Swords and clinch an 8-0 win.

Luke Sunde was all over the ice for Southern Tier, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Sunde scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Southern Tier. The Xpress had taken the advantage when Cincinnati\’s Alex Olson got sent off for slashing. Tobias Gabrielsen assisted on the tally. Sunde\’s next tally on the power play made the score 6-0 Southern Tier with 12:34 left in the third period. Alec Hooper picked up the assist.

Southern Tier excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Xpress kept the Swords\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Kruger made 23 saves on 31 shots. Southern Tier outdid its season average for goals scored. The Xpress have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Southern Tier got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Southern Tier also got points from Justin Andriaccio, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Hooper, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Cody Maulsby, who also had one goal and two assists. Southern Tier also had goals scored by Jake Andriaccio, Elijah Williams, and Aleksandr Koshelev, who each put in one. More assists for Southern Tier came via Curtis Carlson, who had three and Brandon Desrosiers, Brian Grant, and Victor McCutcheon, who each chipped in two.

Cody Gibson rejected 19 shots on goal for the Xpress. Southern Tier incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Cincinnati incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
