Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Southern Tier defeated Wooster in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).
The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.
Southern Tier saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Southern Tier made the score 5-2 on a short handed goal by Curtis Carlson at 9:02 in the second period. Wooster evened things up at 6-6 on a short handed goal by Christian Miller at 14:45 in the third period.
Kyler Chartier and Carlson provided the spark for Southern Tier, combining for four goals and one assist. Chartier racked up two goals and Carlson also added two goals and one assist.
Southern Tier forced Wooster\’s netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 35 shots and forcing 28 saves. Ryan Spencer made 13 stops and Steven Schmitt made 15. Southern Tier excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Southern Tier surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Southern Tier has scored at the pace of 2.2 goals per game during the current campaign.
Southern Tier additionally got points from Justin Andriaccio, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Carlson, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Victor McCutcheon also scored for Southern Tier. More assists for Southern Tier came via Tait Aptakin, who had two and Jake Andriaccio, Elijah Williams, and Hunter Kepple, who contributed one each.
Wooster\’s offense rang up 47 shots on Southern Tier\’s net. Wooster found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wooster averages 3.6 goals per game.
Wooster was helped by Nick Tobey, who registered two goals. Tobey scored the first of his two goals at 3:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wooster. Nick Mooney provided the assist. Tobey\’s next tally made the score 5-3 Southern Tier with 19:30 left in the third period. Ramsey Mayne picked up the assist. Wooster also got points from Mooney, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Zach Bilius, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wooster also got a goal from Mike Zenone as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wooster were Tyler Groth, Will Schober, Trenton Mulnix, Jason Watts, and Mike Ragone, who each chipped in one and Carmon Teel and Brad Delenko, who contributed two each.
Southern Tier\’s Tyler Geloneck stopped 41 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Southern Tier incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Wooster incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
