Xpress Can’t Recover From Early Hole In Wooster

The Southern Tier Xpress fell behind 3-0 midway through the game and could not recover, falling to the Wooster Oilers, 4-2, in North American Tier III Hockey League action Friday night.

Wooster’s Nicholas Stanko opened the scoring with his third goal of the season from Michael Zenone and Tyler Groth before teammate Tyler Kallay scored his sixth of the season 51 seconds into the second period from Zenone and Nicholas Mooney. The hosts made it 3-0 when Trenton Mulnix scored his sixth from Tyler Groth and Evan Tasker at the 10:32 mark.

Cameron Trejchel got the Xpress on the board with less than two minutes remaining in the second period when he scored his 13th of the season from Tristan Mock short-handed.

Southern Tier pulled within a goal just over a minute into the third period when Bradley Delenko scored his fourth of the season from Jacob St. Andre, but the Xpress could not get any closer and Tasker buried an empty-netter from Stanko and Jeremy Ross with two seconds remaining.

Harrison Vangellow took the loss, stopping 30 of 33 shots in net while Michael Hubbard picked up the win with 36 saves on 38 shots.

Southern Tier was 0 for 8 on the power play.

The Xpress return to action next Friday against the Metro Jets at Northwest Arena. On Saturday, Southern Tier hosts the Toledo Cherokee before the Xpress visit the Roc City Royals on Sunday.
