The Southern Tier Xpress closed out their NA3HL season with a shutout win on Friday night and a shutout loss on Saturday night against the Toledo Cherokee at the Toledo Ice House.
Goalie Ryan Pascarella recorded his second shutout in a 4-0 Xpress victory over Toledo on Friday and goalie Roman Malkov did the same thing in Toledo’s 2-0 victory on Saturday evening.
The 1-1 record enabled the Xpress finish the season 15-28-4 record, which is last in the Eastern Division. Meanwhile, Toledo finishes in third place in the East with a 24-21-2 record.
Pascarella was outstanding in goal with 56 saves against Toledo on Friday.
Jacob St. Andre scored his 14th goal with assists to Luke Grossman and Cameron Pries on the power play with 14:33 left in the first period. After a scoreless second stanza, the Xpress added three goals in the third to wrap it up. Grant Scharmer tallied his second of the season from Santeri Rajakallio and St, Andre at 1:27. Rajakallio scored his 14th goal of the season from Scharmer and Artuu Rajamaki at 10:16, and Cameron Trejchel tallied from Rajamaki and Rajakallio.
On Saturday after a scoreless first period, Toledo scored first in the second period when Ben Hamilton found the back of the net at 13:51 off of passes from Alex Syring and Brock Grandbois.
It stayed that way until one minute remained when Tristin Snyder scored an empty-net goal for Toledo.
Malkov made 31 saves in picking up the shutout for the winners.
Harrison Vangellow recorded 35 saves in defeat.
