The Southern Tier Xpress dropped a pair of weekend games to the unbeaten Metro Jets, falling 6-2 on Saturday and 14-0 on Sunday in the East Division of the North American Tier III Hockey League.
On Saturday, the Jets, now 45-0 on the season, opened up a 4-0 lead just past the midway point of the second period before Southern Tier’s Santeri Rajakallio tallied his 13th goal of the season, assisted by Jacob St. Andre with seven minutes remaining.
The Xpress closed the deficit to 4-2 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the third period on an unassisted goal by Cameron Trejchel, his 16th, but the Jets tallied the final two goals to support the win in net by goalies Andrew Kormos and Brian Tallieu, who combined for 17 saves.
Ryan Pascarella was between the pipes for Southern Tier, turning away 38 shots.
On Sunday, the Jets scored seven second-period goals on their way to a 14-0 victory. Pascarella and Harrison Vangello combined to make 46 saves for the Xpress (14-27).
