Xpress End Losing Streak With Win At West Michigan

The losing streak finally came to an end for the Southern Tier Xpress in the NA3HL on Saturday night.

Matthew Crosby’s power-play goal from Santeri Rajakallio with 1:56 left gave the Xpress (13-22-4) a 2-1 victory over the West Michigan Wolves to snap their 11-game losing skein at the Rink at Battle Creek.

The last victory for the Xpress was a 4-3 overtime decision over the Toledo Cherokee on Jan. 6.

Gabe Smith put the hosts ahead with his first goal of the year from Blake Siewertsen and Lucas Duckstein at 15:02 of the first period.

That lead held up for the Wolves until 13:57 of the second stanza when Ty Rickabaugh tied it at 1-1 on a power play from Arttu Rajamaki. That was Rickabaugh’s sixth goal of the season.

It appeared the game would go into overtime, but Crosby settled that matter with his eighth goal of the year with time running out for the Xpress.

Harrison Vangellow was outstanding in goal for the Xpress with 33 saves while Sam Woznicki took the loss with 20 saves.

The Xpress try to make it two in a row today at West Michigan.
