A late third-period goal was all the Southern Tier Xpress could muster in a 4-1 North American Tier III Hockey League East Division loss to the Pittsburgh Vengeance on Friday night at Northwest Arena.
Nicholas Wilcox scored his sixth of the year from Cameron Trejchel and Joey Gerace at 16:16 of the final 20 minutes, but by that point the Vengeance (25-15-2) had already put four goals on the board.
Dillon Joyce opened the scoring with his seventh of the year from Perry Shiring at 17:04 of the first period.
Pittsburgh added three goals in the opening seven minutes of the second period. Austin Martz scored on the power play from Cam Williams and Gavin Cummings at 3:36 before Williams scored his 22nd of the year unassisted at 5:05. Vincent Casale scored the final Vengeance goal with his 18th of the year from Camron Smith and Cummings at 6:42 of the period.
Ryan Pascarella made 37 saves in net for the Xpress (14-24-4) while Joel DeSimone only had to make 15 saves for Pittsburgh.
Southern Tier will play its final five games of the season on the road, beginning with a game today at 6:30 p.m. against Pittsburgh.
