The Southern Tier Xpress scored the first goal of their NA3HL game Friday night, but none after that in a 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Vengeance at the Northwest Arena.
Harry Payne got the Xpress started on the right foot with his sixth goal of the season unassisted at 10:40 of the first period.
After that it was all Pittsburgh.
Dominick Glavich tied it at 1-1 with his 18th goal of the season from Thomas Polster and Justin Dioni. Glavich added an unassisted goal at 6:30 of the second stanza to put Pittsburgh up for good, 2-1.
James Unger tallied his fourth of the season from Zachary Servidio and Simon Soderberg at 11:50 to give Pittsburgh a 3-1 edge and that’s the way the second period ended.
Art Martz had both Pittsburgh goals in the final period.
Tyler Hawk was the winning goalie with 20 saves while Ryan Pascarella made 42 saves for the Xpress.
Southern Tier is now 6-8 on the season and in fourth place in the East Division while Pittsburgh is in first place with a 14-5 record.
The two teams meet again tonight in Pittsburgh at 7 p.m.
