Xpress Fall To Whalers In Showcase In Minnesota

The Southern Tier Xpress allowed three goals in the final period in the North American Tier II Showcase and lost to the Wisconsin Whalers at the Schwan Super Park on Tuesday night.

Going into the final period, the Whalers held a 4-2 lead and extended that for a 7-5 final

Wisconsin scored the first four goals to take a 4-0 lead before the Xpress got on the scoreboard when Walteri Malkinen scored from Brian Grant at 9:58 of the second period. Right after that goal, Michael Lamioson cut the deficit to 4-2 with an unassisted goat at 12:24.

The Xpress started the third period off with two goals to gain a 4-4 tie with Scott Pearson and Joey Gerace scoring unassisted goals.

However, Nick Rogers and Dan Suszek scored at 9:53 and 13:19, respectively, to give the Whalers the lead for good at 6-4.

Lamison scored his second unassisted goal at 15:15 for the Xpress, who drew within a goal, but the Whalers got a clinching goal from Anthony Fortin at 19:42.

Goalie Ryan Pascarella had 37 saves for the Xpress and Alex Hufford made 46 saves for the winners.
