Cameron Trejchel’s goal in the opening minutes of overtime carried the Southern Tier Xpress to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over Pittsburgh in an NA3HL game Sunday before 324 fans at the Alpha Ice Complex.
Trejchel’s game winner, which came at 1:17 of the extra session, was assisted by Santeri Rajakallio and Grant Scharmer, making a winner of goalie Harrison Vangellow, who raised his record to 4-8-1-0 on the season.
The victory was especially sweet for the Xpress, who trailed 3-0 early in the second period and 4-1 heading into the final period. But Matthew Crosby (assisted by Trejchel), Joseph Gerace (assisted by Jacob St. Andre and Bradley Delenko on the power play) and Arttu Rajamaki (assisted by Rajakallio) scored consecutive goals to tie the game to send it into overtime.
Also scoring the second-period goal for the Xpress was Joshua Bostic, assisted by Rajamaki and Hunter Kepple.
Goal scorers for the Vengeance were Cam Williams (two), Dominick Glavach and Gavin Cummings. Assists belonged to James Unger, Austin Martz, Cummings (two), Ryan Loebig, Vincent Casale, Glavach and Williams.
Gerace earned the game’s first star, while Williams and Cummings were the second and third stars respectively for Pittsburgh.
Vangello made 35 saves while Vengeance goalie Nikoloas Manousos made 27 saves.
