The Southern Tier Xpress (6-7-1) trailed by two goals early, but fought back to post a 6-3 NA3HL victory over the Toledo Cherokee (9-9) at the Toledo Ice House on Friday.
The Xpress trailed by a 3-1 count after two periods, but then scored five straight goals to to end a three-game road losing streak.
The last road victory by the Xpress was a 10-4 decision over the Wooster Oilers on Oct. 14.
Santeri Rajakallio started off the five-goal third period outburst just 10 seconds in with assists to Cameron Trejchel and Cameron Pries to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Trejchel tied it up at 3-all from Rajakallio and Matthew Crosby at 2:43 before Jacob St. Andre scored from Pries at 10:12 to put the Xpress ahead, 4-3.
Trejchel again scored unassisted at 14:12 to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Xpress. At 19:43, Nicholas Wilcox scored an empty-net goal from Jacob Zwieg to conclude the scoring.
The only goal of the first period belonged to Toledo’s Josh Smith with assists going to Dustin Foran and Will Delverne at 18:29.
Toledo took a 2-0 lead when Anthony Weinrich scored from Ben Hamilton and Delverne at 9:18.
Pries put the Xpress on the scoreboard on the power play from Trejchel at 10:22 of the second period.
However, Toledo’s E.J. Gilbert scored his 17th goal of the season from Foran and Ricky Kwapich at 17:23 to restore the lead to a 3-1 margin.
Ryan Pascarella made 35 saves in the Xpress net while Roman Malkov had 32 stops for Toledo.
The Xpress have a 7 p.m. home game against the Pittsburgh Vengeance next Friday at Northwest Arena before going to Pittsburgh for a 6:30 p.m. start Saturday at the Alpha Ice Complex.
