Xpress Suffer 2-0 Shutout In Pittsburgh

The Southern Tier Xpress couldn’t find any offense and came up on the short end of a 2-0 score to the Pittsburgh Vengeance on Saturday night in NA3HL East Division action at the Alpha Ice Complex.

After a scoreless first period, the Vengeance (26-15-2) got on the board at 1:50 of second stanza when Gavin Cummings connected on his 15th of the year from Dominick Glavach.

It stayed that way until late in the third period as the hosts got some insurance when Austin Martz scored an empty-net goal at 19:04 to drop the Xpress to 14-25-4 on the season. The goal was Martz’s 15th of the year.

Pittsburgh outshot the Xpress, 43-26, with Ryan Pascarella in net for the Xpress and Joel DeSimone the winning goalie for Pittsburgh.

Both teams had their chance on the power play but neither was able to cash in. The Xpress went 0 for 7 and Pittsburgh went 0 for 6.

The Xpress play their final four games on the road beginning with the undefeated Metro Jets on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. Southern Tier closes the season at Toledo on March 10-11 with 7 p.m. games.
