Xpress Suffer Shutout Loss At Pittsburgh

The Southern Tier Xpress (6-9) continue to have their troubles with the first place Pittsburgh Vengeance (15-5) in the North American Tier 3 Hockey League.

For the second straight night, the Xpress got behind early and lost a 5-0 decision to the front-runners in the Eastern Division.

There was only one goal in the first period and that was by Pittsburgh’s Marks Mezsargs unassisted at 2:02.

Two more goals came in the second period with Nathaniel Schwartz scoring his 11th of the season from Benjamin Goslick at 1:42 and Dominick Glavach recording his 30th from Mezsargs at 9:32 to give Pittsburgh a 3-0 advantage .

In the third period, Pittsburgh added two goals as Schwartz got his 12th from Simon Soderberg and Chris Sturny at 5:25, and Austin Martz got his seventh from Lucas Kirk at 10:09.

Jacob Zab picked up the shutout in goal with 16 saves while Brandon Heacock was a busy goalie with 41 saves for the Xpress.
